There’s Still Time to Make it a Green Halloween!

My webmonster, Tammy, just told me that one of her two elementary children’s teacher’s sent home a note about their classroom Halloween party this week – and they have GONE GREEN!  Wahoooo!  The fifth grade class of Medina ISD in Medina, Texas deserves a very special “attaboygirl” from us, for asking that parents send healthy foods for snacks, and for asking the kids to make their own costumes out of supplies that they already have at home.  Use and re-use!

Here’s a photo of Tammy’s son, who is homeschooled, but who already embraces the GREEN Halloween concept – he and his dad made the helmet as part of an art project…and her son-man put together his very own sword and shield from his stash of KNex:

Way to go GREEN, Master H!

Come-on – join me and many others across the nation, by GOING GREEN!

Meet Stacey of Cedar Valley Publishing

Tell us a little about you . . .

I am not a teacher or educator, and yet I created a book used by schools.  I didn’t create the alphabet, numbers, colors or shapes but found a way to repackage it for parents, kids and teachers.  With a telephone and a computer, I created 10% of all profits are donated to literacy foundations and back to schools.  By donating back to a school, schools see my books and want to write grants to purchase more!

I am an author, publisher, consultant, blogger, speaker, motivator, spokesperson, CEO and Mom!

What is your business and where can we find it?

I run four companies from home:

Is it mom-owned, invented, created . . .?

Yes, mom-owned, mom invested and mom created!! I am the author and publisher of Let’s Get Ready For Kindergarten! & Let’s Get Ready For First Grade! Both books are award-winning, state-approved and used inside homes and schools across the nation.  They are currently used in over 350 school districts from Portland, Maine to Portland, Oregon and in libraries and head start programs all across the country.   Parents, kids and grandparents all love them because they are not storybooks or workbooks; they are books meant to be read over and over that cover the curriculum for Kindergarten and First Grade.

A little about your entrepreneur journey so far?

I broke every rule starting out in the publishing world and in the end, it has been a blessing!! Has it been easy, no, it’s been long nights of burning both ends of the candle to juggle everything around my family schedule! I absolutely love it and can’t tell if I am working or playing!! My mantra is if two brothers from Ohio can change the face of aviation, that why can’t a mom, inspired by Oprah change education at the core!  I will be releasing the highly anticipated Spanish/English edition of Let’s Get Ready For Kindergarten! iA prepararse para kindergarten!    My kids think it is hilarious that I am writing a Spanish book without being able to read or write the language.  As my 7 year old says, “Just hire a translator, duh, anyone can do anything!”   This is a true family business! Who better to help me write Let’s Get Ready For Second Grade! than my 2nd and 4th grader!

Where else can people find you?

Anything else you’d like to share?

I am a mom inspired by Oprah to change education.  This has become my passion! Thirty-eight states are discussing all day 4 year-old Kindergarten because kids are not coming to school prepared.  But where are the public service announcements telling parents the 7 things they need to know for Kindergarten testing:  the alphabet all mixed up, number to 10 all mixed up, basic shapes, colors, coins, counting objects to 10 and how far they can count to 100? Schools purchase my books in bulk to help get parents, kids and teachers all on the same page of Kindergarten and First Grade!  Now I have a national platform speaking to educators, schools, parents and kids to help get everyone on the same page!

*Be sure to check out the HOME page of Mommy’s Idea for our Mom Giveaways!  Giveaways of things made by moms, made for moms, mom invented and mom created, as well as mom run stores,  and all around great products.  Although, you don’t need to be a mom to win or enjoy many of the products.

Let’s Get Ready to Build A library in Fiji!

Published by under Uncategorized

I was just invited to join this Facebook group “Books For Fiji” and of course, I love that it was put together by a 16 year old volunteer!!! Way to go Morgan!!! Let’s Get Ready to Build this library in Fiji!  Here is Morgan’s mission:

My name is Morgan Hayton I am 16 years old.

I have spent my winter school holidays for two years in Fiji volunteering at local school as part of my school’s mission team. We visited at very remote school that is struggling and has only handful books in the whole school, the teachers there can only dream of starting a library.

Have you ever wanted to change the world?  But think it is impossible because we are just one person?  Me too! But then I came up with this idea.

We are going to build a library together!  One person, one book at a time.

One person can’t build a library but if everyone that gets into this group gets a book from their bookshelf (they don’t have to be new) and post it to Fiji we can do it together.

We can build a library together.

Step 1

A small book no more 2cm thick up to 125g ( that’s like a Dr Seuss soft cover) in an A4 envelope costs $2.80 to post.Up to 250g is $4.20

There is no sea mail to Fiji so this is the best way to get books there.

Namara Village District School

Step 2

Please write your a small bit about yourself or family inside the cover the kids would love to know who you are and where to book came from.

Step 3

Look at my page from time to time and I will get some photos next year and you can see your library.
Thank you

Meet Sheila and her Love Prints – Bonus: Love Prints Contest!

Meet Sheila of Love Prints

Tell us a little about you . . .

My name is Sheila McGoldrick and I am a mom to three fabulous kiddies. Their ages are six, four and one. I am married to my high school sweetheart, who makes me laugh every day. I am truly blessed and I take nothing for granted. I am also the mom-inventor of the Handy Burpee and the Handy Burp’ems, which are new style burp cloths with a protective covering for your hand ans protects baby, as well, from wearing spit-up.

You can find my product at, all Babies R’ Us locations nationwide, and with more stores to come. We are very proud at successful they have been so far.

Is it mom-owned, invented, created . . .?

Absolutely! I was a mom in pain and totally invented it out of necessity! I had an allergic reaction to a preservative in their washes and wipes and needed something to protect myself from constantly wearing spit-up and washing my hands. It has worked perfectly for me and figured I could surely help others if I just followed my dream of getting them out there.

A little about your entrepreneur journey so far?

Well, it has been a four year journey so far. I invented my product in September of 04’ and it was not until September of 06’ when I launched my site. I had so much wonderful feedback from family and friends and orders were coming in for more. Someone asked me about a website and then I thought that would be great to get them out there nationwide. So in October of 2006 we launched Love Prints. Some people could not quite get the name, but to me my kiddies little hand and foot prints are my Love Prints and it was a perfect fit for me and reminds me of them and why I started this journey. I was selling, advertising, going to craft shows, applied for my non-provisional patent, filed it and continued on selling and advertising. Then in February of 08’ WE WERE FOUND. A large manufacturer of baby and children’s products found me on where they were being sold. She ordered and tested it on herself with her baby and FELL IN LOVE with them. WOW, what a huge compliment coming from such a large company. I actually re-designed the original Handy Burpee at that time and added a dribble catcher pocket to catch those quicker and larger spit-ups. What a wonderful addition and it really added to the protection of the burp cloth. They name was also changed to Handy Burp’ems to go with the added feature. I trademarked the name and filed for my provisional patent. We are now in the patent pending stage.

Win a Handy Burp’ ems from Love Prints!
